Written on the Wind
Victor Young & Sammy Cahn • 1956
The title song for Douglas Sirk’s 1956 melodrama — one of the defining films of Hollywood’s golden age of excess — earned Cahn an Academy Award nomination. The Four Aces’ recording perfectly captured the film’s overripe romanticism, their lush harmonies matching the Technicolor intensity of Sirk’s vision.
A rare Cahn collaboration with Victor Young, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated film composers, and one of the few Cahn title songs written for a film that has genuinely entered the cinematic canon.
