Where Love Has Gone
Jimmy Van Heusen & Sammy Cahn • 1964
The title song for the 1964 drama loosely based on the Lana Turner scandal earned Cahn and Van Heusen an Academy Award nomination. The song’s brooding, minor-key intensity — unusual for the duo — perfectly matched the film’s dark subject matter, love curdled into something dangerous and destructive.
Jack Jones and Bobby Darin both recorded it in 1964, each finding a different shade of anguish in Cahn’s most dramatically charged title song.
