It's Magic

Jule Styne & Sammy Cahn • 1948

Written for the 1948 Warner Bros. film Romance on the High Seas, “It’s Magic” was Doris Day’s film debut and her first major hit — launching one of the most successful careers in Hollywood history. The song earned Cahn and Styne an Academy Award nomination and reached #2 on the Billboard charts.

Dinah Washington’s 1959 recording transformed it into something altogether more bluesy and sensual, proving once again that the best Cahn lyrics can survive any stylistic reinvention.
