Introduced by Sinatra in the 1945 film Anchors Aweigh, this delicate ballad earned Cahn and Styne an Academy Award nomination, losing to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “It Might as Well Be Spring.” What it lost at the Oscars it more than made up for in longevity — it became one of the most recorded jazz ballads of the postwar era.
